Yes. Do learn PHP, it's not difficult, that's why it's so popular. But also: learn Javascript.
Get real good at it. Learn proper CSS. Learn jQuery and AJAX and you will be set to build any website or app you want
PHP is the simplest server side programming language I found out to be.
It will take you two to four weeks to learn majority of the things in PHP and implement them.
A lot of tutorials, books and other resources are available which will make your learning phase rather smooth.
